TOGETHER Leading Learning
Nau mai, haere mai, greetings and welcome
On behalf of the New Zealand Principals’ Federation, The Australian Primary Principals’ Association, and the joint 2024 Conference Committee, I am pleased to invite you to join us at the Trans-Tasman Principals’ Conference in Ōtautahi, Christchurch in September 2024.
We have chosen the title TOGETHER Leading Learning to reflect the special nature of the professional collaboration that exists between our two countries, exemplified by this event which is held every four years. That partnership is about leading learning, and what we can learn from each other through this unique relationship. Having suffered from the disruption of COVID for the planned 2020 Trans-Tasman Conference in Melbourne, the element of ‘togetherness’ will be especially poignant in 2024.
The te reo phrase that accompanies the title – Tau Mai! Tau Tahi! – reflects the significance of this conference being held in the city of Ōtautahi. Ōtautahi is the Ngāi Tahu (Māori) name for Christchurch and Tautahi was a founding Ngāi Tahu Chief. This phrase talks to arriving together and collaborating together in Ōtautahi.
The NZPF Executive and the joint 2024 Conference Committee are privileged to host you at such a prestigious event, and hope that the 2024 Trans-Tasman Conference will be memorable, both educationally and socially. Ōtautahi, Christchurch, is located in the spectacular South Island of New Zealand and is a city that is undergoing a spectacular transformation of its own. In September 2024 we will be able to showcase the best it has to offer, and you will be treated to an experience in a modern, culturally uplifting, state of the art environment, both inside the convention centre and out. Known as the garden city of New Zealand, spring is one of the very best times to visit and we will be provided with a stunning backdrop to conference events.
We are currently working hard to deliver an inspiring programme, leaving you with a rejuvenated sense of leadership and purpose. There will be plenty of opportunity to be together, learning and making connections, both within the formal programme elements and in the social programme. We hope to return you to your school challenged, excited, and inspired with a fresh mindset and some new connections.
This website will be updated regularly right up until conference starts with the information you will need to make the event enjoyable and worthwhile. We urge you to register early before the early bird cut-off date. Please note that priority will be given to school principals in the first instance and will open to other senior leaders on 10 May 2024. If you are a school principal, register now to ensure you do not miss this special professional and networking opportunity.
We look forward to welcoming you to Ōtautahi in September 2024.
No reira, tena koutou katoa,
Jill Corkin MNZM
